Coaching & Referee Seminar in Cyprus

On 16–17 May 2026, the ICSBF community in Cyprus hosted a highly successful Coaching & Referee Seminar in Larnaca under the expert leadership of ICSBF Vice President Tatjana Gerber. The event focused on strengthening tactical coaching, supporting referee development, and further integrating new teams and officials into the federation’s competitive framework.

The seminar brought together 54 participants, including 14 newly certified coaches and 6 active referees, creating an intensive and collaborative learning environment dedicated to the continued growth of the sport in Cyprus.

Strategic Timing for the Cyprus League

The seminar took place at a particularly important moment during the ongoing Cyprus League Championship, allowing participants to immediately apply newly learned concepts and methodologies under live competitive conditions.

The event also coincided with the official addition of two new clubs to the federation:

  • Marathonas Kato-Varosion (Μαραθώνας Κάτω Βαρωσίων)
  • ASIL LYSIS ( ΑΣΥΛ- ΛΥΣΗΣ)

Both clubs entered the league with newly appointed coaches, making the seminar an ideal onboarding opportunity. The new coaching staff were introduced to modern systemic coaching principles and aligned directly with ICSBF technical standards.

Key Educational Focus Areas

The seminar successfully addressed several important areas of development across coaching and officiating:

  • Tactical and systemic team management
  • Conflict resolution and player motivation
  • Technical unification of training standards
  • Women’s empowerment through sport
  • Updates on international regulations and referee positioning standards

Special emphasis was also placed on referee professionalism and compliance with official CSB Rules and Regulations. During the practical sessions, referees received direct and actionable feedback regarding posture, communication, body language, and the precision of official hand signals. These standards will continue to be monitored throughout upcoming league matches to ensure the highest level of game integrity.

Strong Outcomes and Positive Impact

At the conclusion of the seminar, 14 coaching certificates were officially awarded, significantly expanding the network of qualified coaches in Cyprus.

The newly integrated coaches from Marathonas Kato-Varosion and ASIL LYSIS successfully adopted the federation’s competitive philosophy, ensuring a smooth transition into league competition. At the same time, existing coaches from other federation teams benefited from advanced tactical modules, the exchange of best practices, and mid-season strategic discussions.

The six participating referees also successfully updated their technical knowledge, helping to guarantee consistent rule enforcement for the remainder of the season.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of the seminar, recommendations were made to continue supporting the development of coaches and referees through:

  • Ongoing mentorship and educational support for newly integrated coaches
  • Digital follow-up sessions and refresher courses during the active season
  • Continued technical alignment across all federation teams and officials

The feedback from participants was very positive. Special recognition was given to Tatjana Gerber for her professionalism, expertise, and passion for the game, and many participants already expressed strong interest in future seminar opportunities.
