Catch'n Serve Ball Thrives in Latvia

More and more interest into the sport in Latvia

Catch'n Serve Ball is growing rapidly in Latvia, with more than 50 teams now playing under the Latvian Sport for All Association (LTSA). These teams have achieved impressive results internationally, and the sport has taken an important step forward with the creation of the Catch'n Serve Ball Sports Federation Latvia. The new federation is focused on expanding the sport and ensuring it is accessible to everyone.

Efforts are being made to engage various groups, including older adults, people with disabilities, mixed-gender teams, and Ukrainian refugee women. These initiatives aim to make the sport open to all and to strengthen its role in bringing communities together.

Latvian teams have already proven their talent on the international stage. At the 1st CSIT Catch'n Serve Ball Championship in Croatia, Team Skabargas won second place. Four Latvian teams participated in a tournament in Utena, Lithuania, showcasing their skill and determination. At the "I am aware" tournament in Vienna, Austria, the team Letijas claimed first place, further highlighting Latvia’s growing strength in the sport.

Throughout 2024, many friendship matches have been organized, where teams invite each other for joint practices and social gatherings. These events have helped build strong connections within the Catch'n Serve Ball community. Local tournaments have also been a highlight, including a competition for players aged 45 and older in Vilce on August 8 and an experimental mixed-gender format in Rūjiena, which attracted 16 teams and generated significant interest. A special training project focused on integrating Ukrainian refugee women has further demonstrated the sport's commitment to inclusion.

Excitement is building for the upcoming national championships, which will take place in Riga in December 2024, with more than 30 teams expected to participate. Looking ahead, the Lūsijas Catch'n Serve Ball FEST'25 is scheduled for April 12, 2025, in Jēkabpils. This event promises to bring even more players and fans together and highlights the sport's growing popularity. More details can be found on the event calendar at the official Catch'n Serve Ball website.

A recent seminar organized by LTSA and led by Tatjana Gerber was a great success. Supported by Erasmus+ funding, it brought together 67 participants, including representatives from Finland and Lithuania. LTSA General Manager Galina Gorbatenkova praised Tatjana's ability to make every participant feel engaged and capable, noting how her approach not only helped develop skills but also boosted confidence.

Catch'n Serve Ball is thriving in Latvia, and its future looks brighter than ever. With strong international results, inclusive projects, and an expanding community, the sport is becoming a key part of amateur sports in the country.
